Dusty’s is now owned by Elizabeth “Betty” Maland.

History of Dusty's

After having spent his college years in Colorado, working at the Grand Mesa Ski Area near Grand Junction and helping to build the Creste Butte Ski Area, Dusty Maland returned to Walla Walla with his wife Betty to raise a family and escape the cold of Gunnison.  Dusty worked for the General Foods Corporation, running the Birds Eye divison’s pea harvest in the Walla Walla valley and the lima bean harvest in Nampa, Idaho.   He eventually ended up farming on his own, assisted by Betty and sons Michael, Christopher, and Jonathan.

After having the opportunity to own the ski rental shop at Spout Spring Ski Area in Oregon and having worked winters at Spout Springs as Mountain Manager during his farming years, Dusty decided to turn to his father's (and father-in-law's) profession as a retailer.

"Dusty's" grew from a single store in Walla Walla to a very small empire of stores in Seattle (managed by Chris), Kennewick (managed by Jonathan) and Dayton Washington, and back to a single store in Walla Walla.

The web site and store digital signage are provided by Michael's company, mikaeljay.

Twenty years later, Dusty and Betty's kids and grandkids are assisting at the fall ski swaps around the northwest.
